Thank you for your support and feedback.
Dear fellow trudgers on the Broad Highway, thank you for sharing a wonderful weekend with us in the sunlight of the Spirit! Your enthusiasm and willingness were inspirational to me and so many others and were key to the success of the roundup. As I reflect on our time together, I am truly grateful to and for each and every one of you. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Executive Committee members, Angela B., Kristi N., Adam B. And Todd G., as well the many Planning Committee chair persons and their sub-committees. The time and talent invested by these and so many other volunteers were a beautiful and meaningful representation of what it is to be of maximum service. I'll remember it always. Special thanks also to our actors, singers, our fabulous drag queens, stage managers and stage hands, lighting and sound crews, directors and producers! Thanks also to our remarkable raffle crew, who made this year's event one of the best ever. Last but not least, I wish to thank the management and staff of The LA Hotel Downtown, who interacted with us with grace and professionalism at all times. It is hard to believe another year may go by before many of us meet again. May the Spirit of the Universe bless and keep you until then.
Welcome to AALA 2015, our 30th anniversary. How exciting to think of all the people who have trudged this road before us. Looking back 30 years, we can marvel at how far the road has taken the gay, lesbian and transgender movement. Yet we must continue working together in fellowship to go even farther. That is the spirit of this year’s AALA. Our theme is The Broad Highway, which comes from page 75 of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous:
“We pocket our pride and go to it, illuminating every twist of character, every dark cranny of the past. Once we have taken this step, withholding nothing, we are delighted. We can look the world in the eye. We can be alone at perfect peace and ease. Our fears fall from us. We begin to feel the nearness of our Creator. We may have had certain spiritual beliefs, but now we begin to have a spiritual experience. The feeling that the drink problem has disappeared will often come strongly. We feel we are on the Broad Highway, walking hand in hand with the Spirit of the Universe.”
So this year in our new home in downtown Los Angeles we have many wonderful activities, speakers and meetings. We’ll also have lots of fundraisers along the way to help support AALA, create fellowship and carry the message. We look forward to seeing you in 2016!
